We live near Lake Ontario in the Beaches neighbourhood of Toronto, a great place to sketch.
The top image is a progresso pencil drawing of an outcropping at the Scarborough Bluffs. The bottom one is another progresso pencil sketch (with a blue prismacolour underdrawing) of willow trees beside the boardwalk. (Posted by John)

Great drawings!!
Hey!
These are really nice!
I love how clear and confident these are John-
Terrific massing out of shapes and tone.
Awesome!
Very beautiful drawings. They make me feel like I was there.
Great volume on the trees, very strong sketch! It looks like it's so beautiful where you live, I think Drazen posted some pictures too from around lake Ontario, really makes me want to go there! Canada is such a beautiful country.
Superb sketches! How big are they? out of interest.
Superb, John! I love how you can find the volumes and dimensionality of the trees with your tonals! Lovely sketches again!
Thanks to all of you for your kind comments! I'm glad you like these drawings! I really admire and enjoy the work of everyone who's commented so far, so I take it as a BIG compliment!
Stef - Canada can be beautiful, especially at this time of year with the leaves turning colour. Not all of Toronto is quite so lovely, though. It can look pretty grey and desolate at times, just like any other city. We live in a fairly picturesque area, thanks mainly to the lake and the many trees. The Bluffs to the east of us are especially lovely in the summer months. That bluff drawing is 18 cm x 14 cm by the way. The one of the trees is 21 cm in height. So, they aren't very big.
These two pieces look like they're right out a book by Jack Hamm! I learned so much about drawing through his books when I was a kid! Wow! These are terrific! JVB, you should publish your own "How To Draw Scenery" book. You'd make a killing!
Lovely sketches..want to sit under those trees
Nice lighting.

Thanks for dropping by, Steve. Are you suggesting that my drawings are Hamm-fisted? 8-)
You don't want to be sitting under those trees today, Boris! We've got a November Nor'wester blowin' through! Thanks for visiting though!
You too, Mark!
JVB
