Connections...

Posted by Arna:

I was sketching these two on the subway as they shared headphones and stared straight ahead. Then suddenly they hugged to say goodbye. The taller girl left the train and the one that looked like Kirsten Dunst sat down beside me, just as I closed the sketch book. I got up and started for the door. She slide over into my old seat and picked up my red reading glasses that I'd dropped on the floor and handed them to me. Thanks! I should have shown her the sketch.

Anniversary!

We celebrated our twentieth wedding anniversary last week! This is the image on the front of a card I made for John. It's a brush marker painting of our cats, Jasper and Kiki, in very familiar poses. John loved the card and suggested that I post it. So here it is...

Beach Bums...

The weather's hot. Summers in Toronto, Canada are unpredictable, but this year's been pretty fine so far. Seems like a good time to post a few watercolours of beach scenes. The thing is, we haven't actually been down to our beach to paint this year, so we'll have to make do with older views.

Here are three sketches of our neighbourhood Toronto Kew Beach area by John:

And three sketches of Pacific coast beaches in Costa Rica by Arna:

Randomness...

Posted by Arna.

Today kids were practicing their skateboard moves on our street. I love the sound of the board hitting the pavement.

In an unrelated note:
This one is Jane, of the Peter Pan sequel 1998, from a scrap panel...

Girl, sketched last winter...

Watercolour of Tink, our first cat. Doing what cats do...

Pussycat portraits...

John painted these 'portraits' as part of a birthday card he made for me recently. Thanks, sweetie! Wish I could show the whole card, but there are some characters on it from a show we are developing, so you'll just have to wait to see them. These are Jasper and Kiki, and they really do look like this.

show us yer wienies*!

Because we saw a fine drawing of three dachshunds* on Jeff Shelly's blog...

Here's an oldie, by Arna, in watercolour on cheapo manilla paper. I had two of these wonderful dogs as a kid -- mine were named Susie and Hank -- so I have a soft spot for them. Plus, they're fun to draw! Anybody else want to show us your sausage dogs? We can make it a dachshund* sketch-off!

*Thanks to Michael Schlingmann for the correct spelling of the breed name and Smook for the correct spelling of the word 'wienies'.

revisiting the past...

We've been looking through our older drawings and paintings. Here's the first in a series of posts of things we found from our back pages.

Self portrait, watercolour by John, painted in Florence.
