Here are some sketches John did while in a hospital waiting room, and on the GO train:

These are absolutely beautiful sketches, John! I especially like the seated girl on the train.

It also looks like those two guys called with the hats called each other that morning to wear the same hat, they knew you were coming out to sketch I guess!

Hey John... really lovely stuff. Caught the characters too... I hope you didn't have to wait too long at the hospital and I hope that the visit was nothing too serious...

Fine quick sketch on the bottom, you can't ask for more than that!

anybody remeber that A-Ha video from the 80s...I always thought the ruff look of it was sooooo cool. These sketches remind me of that vid. Super cool!

Confident sketches - the guy in the hoodie is my favourite - he looks rather suspicious.

I envy these folk who can draw while in motion.
It makes me dreadfully motion sick.

Beautiful sketches! do your draw on big sketchbooks?

Thanks to everyone for their kind remarks!

Smook: The sketches are of the same guy believe it or not, considering the vastly different proportions in each drawing. He just did NOT sit still the whole train ride so it was hard to nail a likeness. The best I could manage was a few quick (inaccurate) impressions of him.

Clive: I did the waiting room sketches at Princess Margaret Hospital where my mother-in-law was waiting to see a doctor. That's Sunday night on the GO, on my way back from Pickering having visited my mother in the Lindsay hospital.

Alina, Matt, Kevin and 'Drawn From Life': Glad you like the drawings. It's always fun trying to get something down quickly before the 'subject' moves or catches on and becomes self-conscious.

Matt: The hoodie guy WAS an odd one and really stood out from the usual Sunday night crowd. More than a little (slim) shady you might say...

Elliott: The GO is a relatively gentle ride. That said, I always gravitate to the upper level and, when the train passes along certain parts of the track, the rocking effect IS somewhat like being on a boat. URP!

Stef: The sketch book I used was relatively small, 14 x 18 cm. I used a Progresso pencil, not too sharp, so I that wouldn't get caught up in the detail. Using a pencil like that almost feels more like painting than drawing...

Hi Mike: Sorry, I thought you were talking about the 'hoodie' guy with the ball cap. You probably meant the two older gents with the similar caps, right? Yeah, two different fellows, but very coordinated. They sat side by side, but appeared not to know each other...
