SunsetTunnelMountainTrail

Posted by Arna.

Just came back from Banff where I was lucky to spend 4 days in the fresh air, and experience an amazing story conference. Got my head clear and came back to Toronto to finish a board that is keeping me very busy for the next three weeks. I'll post more about the conference in the next days.

Thanks to Warren Leonhardt who encouraged me to go. Thanks to Chad Kerychuk and Ken Bautista who put the conference together.

Big thanks to speakers Ronnie Del Carmen, Kris Pearn, Josh Staub, and George P. Georgeadis for your energy, insight and inspiration.

This photo was taken on the way up Tunnel Mountain Trail. I am now walking hills in our neighbourhood to get in better shape so the next time I'll make it to the top of that trail!

Hey Arna!
I had such a great time catching up with you again in the rocky mountains! Good luck getting your head wrapped back into your board...I've been back for a week and still feel like my limp soul is up somewhere up in the snowy peaks. It's humbling and inspiring to be around so many talented people. Hope to see you again soon!
Cheers,
Kris.

Hey hey! I got 2 weeks off, so when I get into Toronto I'll give you a heads up for some drinks...maybe after you're done cranking that out.

That was really fun, eh? Everyone should go! No really. e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e.

Glad you came. It's always a refresher.

Dominic, thanks! Took it as a chance to catch my breath on the way up the trail...

Smook, hopefully they will do more of these. I decided at the last minute I almost did not go but it was really worth it.

Marcos, ya gotta go there.

Kris, Warren, since I've been back thankfully I completed the roughs on this last show. Even though I'm a bit disoriented with images of the trip floating past the eyeballs at random moments. Now I gotta keep this energy going during cleanup!

The mountains sure did make an impression on me. And it was great fun to hang out with you guys. Warren, yup. everyone. (hyphenated)

Warren we still owe you some beers. Kris, Mike, we extend the invite to you if you're in town...I'll be done in two weeks but lets try to spend an evening sooner if pos.

Cheers all! ~ Arna

Wow, that trip would have been an interesting mix of business and pleasure. You've got the hiking in the mountains figured out; you really need the fitness of a marathon runner to get up the hills. I'm always 'hill training' just to keep in shape for summer hiking. Well, other stuff too. But walking up a steep hill is great cardio exersise and also great strength building, and less pounding than running on flat ground. You've got some nice steep hills in the Beaches there in TO, and when you are comfy climbing them throw 20lbs in a backpack and try again. Then you can use ski or hiking poles for a total body workout. Think of all the money you'll save on gym fees! Hey, remember Paul Hogarth? He would head off hiking once a week all through the Don Valley all day when things slowed down for him at the Art Factory. I had some interesting chats with him about where he had been, an almost subterranean world of paths, trails and routes through the city. Good old Paul.
Are you ready boots? Start walkin'!

Alina, Thanks! It was a beautiful sunset.

Clive, yes the trip was a good mix and a still plan to write more about it shortly.
Wow! Thanks for the excellent and encouraging excerpt from POWSEY'S GUIDE TO FITNESS. You know your stuff. I'm already carrying a bit of weight in the backpack. We'll work up to the hiking poles. I think I can feel the difference already in my ability to sit drawing at the table for hours and hours... and hours...only one more week to go on this show.

I should have spent more time talking to Paul Hogarth when I had the chance. I didn't know he was a hiker. You guys keep in touch?
