snail in the big world...

Posted by Arna:

A snail's pace. No, this is not about how slow my current storyboard is going. That's maybe a subject for another post. Or not.

This is what I saw on a Go Train platform on a rainy Toronto Sunday morning this week. I hope the little guy wasn't stepped on. It was heading towards the safety of the brush behind the platform. Slowly.

That's great. Actually that would make a great short story. Hmmmmmm...

By the way, the beach watercolors are awesome and I love the "funhouse mirror" stuff.

Grant, you've got some pretty fine paintings there on your blog.

Mr Cruickshank! Now that you've gone with the more formal version of your first name, we hardly recognize ya! Yes, the shell is amazing. It's actually the second time in a month or so that we saw such a snail on this platform. They are magical creatures. It's getting too cold for them though. I fear we've seen the last for the year.

Love your photography, how do you spot this little snail in the BIG BIG world!! Amazing observation!!

Hee hee! And maybe just maybe that little snail is about at the bushes now.

I can imagine people from afar, perhaps not the other side of the country like me, but maybe the opposite platform across the tracks, watching you guys on your hands and knees photographing the...thing. What would they have thought...? Pius devotees of one of the worlds larger religions? Coin colectors? Poo fetishists? No; animation industry workers studying a slow moving mollusc. Hang in there guys, deep breaths, get a grip, don't go too weird on us!

(Just kidding, I loved it. Great post.)

hehehehe... I'm so happy this post exists! I have a fondness for gastropods... my final animation for Calarts was about a suicidal slug named Morton... he wanted to end it by pouring salt on himself. I don't know, I think slugs and snails have it pretty good, especially with a looker like that... that shell is spectacular! :)

Belinha, Sorry, don't think I could eat these guys.. with or without beer. Thanks for the sweet note though. Your collages continue to be fantastic!

Alina, I did almost step on it. Though since it was raining and I'd seen one in the rain there before, I was sort of on the lookout.

Garrett, we hope so too.

Clive, nice of you to stop by. It was just me that day, no JvB. But I'm sure the woman in the shelter who was watching me thought I was a bit 'titched'. Too late about the 'going wierd' part. I'm already there...

Mattais, Enzo, Cheers you two talented guys! A good 'slow' is certainly a challenge to do these days.

Smook, kids would probably be fascinated by s snail competition. Sorry too that you can't make the Royal after all! Next year.

Yacin, peace is somewhat lacking in all our lives right now. But we're so inspired by your wonderful illustrations... there is often a great sense of peace in them. Thanks so much for visiting.

Garrett! Haha! It's all a matter of perspective isnt it?!

PBCB, Martin, Cheers to you guys and thanks for the comments.

Carrie, cool story. Have you posted some of your Morton animation?

Aahahah! A lot of friends of mine can't bear the thought of eating snails too!Iac, they say...

The nose in my Halloween collage is not a pig nose,it's a pretty nose from a beautifull woman, a model...

Thanks for droping by...

Belinha. I never said that was a pig nose. It is hard to imagine it as the nose of a beautiful model. It seems to have some hair on it...?? Lovely collage however.

So which is slower the Go Train or the snail.
THE GO TRAIN!!!!

Anyway he may be alone but at least he's not homeless...

the doodlers said...

Hi Mr Divine,

Yeah we heard there was trouble on the go this week and last. Not fun for those who depend on it...

Snail's got a fire going in the fireplace and has his feet up on the hassock tonight, curled up with a good book I'll bet.

Lee-Roy said...

he was moving so slow, you drew on his shell!

Hi Lee-roy! It does look like somone drew on it. It was startlingly beautiful to see this little thing on the wet cold pavement.
