Through the back window at dusk...

A quick sketch with very basic Photoshop brushes. I'm trying to capture the colour that lasts for a few moments late in the afternoon.

That's my favourite time of day. I always try to walk the dogs right at that moment where day meets night. When I was a kid, I would lie out in the field behind our house and watch the sky grow dark (its a neat trick if you've never tried it). There's something about the quality of light when the sun drops below the horizon and the remanents of the day swirl the drain. It's comforting, witnessing the passage of time. I don't know why, but it feels like a snowy dusk. Makes me miss TO.
Thanks for that.

Walleye, Yeah, it was a snowy dusk. Thanks for the beautiful note. You really captured that moment in your description. In Toronto this morning it's bright sunny, cold and crisp with a bit of wind that makes walking a little nippy.

Thomas, thanks very much. Let's see some of those views out your window, I'm sure they'll be interesting, grey or not. Love the new old lady on your recent post!

That time reminds me of playing hide and seek when I was a little Ack!!! Had to come in when the street lights came on! Nice stuff!

I know there's not alot of warm colours here but something about it feels warm and cozy. Lovely work Arna.

nice mood, i like the body world studies, a great loose expressiveness in the drawings.

Thanks for dropping by.
The toy look was totally what I was going for. I had smash up derby from the late 60's in mind for the texture of the plastic.

Nice! Very evocative for a quick sketch. I get a real sense of the time of day.

The view out your back window looks a bit like the one out the back of mine. I often look out during twilight at winter and wish I could get that particular colour and the shadows of branches around it down on paper.

Kevin, Willipino, Raymond, Joe, Thanks for the kind and thoughtful comments. It's a rush to get such great feedback.

Michael, Thanks! It's a common Toronto view isn't it?

I got a kick out of using the blue ground and drawing into it. It such a fleeting time of day and I little time to mix the colours, so I squinted and approximated the overall light, made the document that colour and started toning down the brushes from there. The hardest thing was getting the window light. I still think it's a bit too sallow...
