Through a funhouse mirror...
Posted by Arna:
While flipping through some older material earlier today, I found a few designs from a feature film project John and I both worked on years ago. These are sketches I did originally in pencil and xeroxed to 'lock in' the line, so's I could render some tone with marker. These days I might just scan and do the tone with photoshop, but I still like to work with a pantone warm grey.

I can't believe it was 12 years ago already! Does John remember looking through my portfolio at the time? I must have been 6 months removed from college at the time......
Shame it never came to fruition.
Lovely as always Arna.
The fountain reflection is beautiful!
Fine work as always!
Good artwork likes a good wine....
Hugs from Brazil
This stuff is amazing! Too bad the rest of the world never got to see it... it was shaping up to be something pretty special.
Wow, this is some great stuff!
There are nice and interesting designs. I wait for many more!
These are so great! I really enjoy how loose they are. Great mood and atmosphere! The water colour down below is amazing too!
Oh btw, My friend Pascal told me you were working on Ruby Gloom :) It makes me feel great knowing that she's in GOOD hands!
These are REALLY GREAT!! Thanks for posting them:)

Hey guys thanks for stopping by my blog !
These are alot of fun! I like the reversed fun house mirror idea, relly cool. Cheers!
Smook, and Steve Daye, Thanks! Yup it was a shame that film never saw the light of day. The boards everybody was doing were pretty cool.
Potato Farmer Girl, Justin, Mauricio, Ryan, Martin W., Sumeet, Jarrett, Thanks! Hugs back to you Mauricio. Work has kept us from spending as much time checking other blogs as we'd like. We'll visit you guys soon! So much good stuff out there right now.

Max, Hi kiddo! Thanks. It was definately a very promising time. Things change; we were all pretty dissapointed when it didn't go ahead.
Yacin. You should have seen some of the other guys work! Spectacular. Some projects just get away from you... Best regards!

Whoa, these are so cool, Arna! Beautiful work. I also love the idea of the fun house mirror distorting the character.
Arna, those sketches are beautiful, and they certainly contain your wonderful imagination. I love looking at the "kitchet gadgets" and the food on the table. So many fantastic details!
Love the marker shading.
WOW!! These drawings are appealling, charming and full of personalities! GREAT!!
These are fun! What project were they for? 'The Thief of Always'?
I noticed that there will be a panel on the 'merchandising miracle' of Ruby Gloom in the Ottawa Fest. Funny, I thought they did that same treatment with the Care Bears, Rescue Heroes, et. all.
Doesn't change the fact that the artwork I saw outside of Robin's office last week looks really good! Should be a fun show.
OK so it's kind of late to reply to all you guys (working too much I guess) but in case anyone still checks, here goes:
Pascal! Yeah! Linked ya back!! Everybody- go to Pascal's site for some very VERY cool flash animation and illustrations!
Leroy! Platitudinal, Ron, Alina, Cheers to you guys, and thanks for the very sweet comments.
Warren, Yup~ Thief. And yes, it might be interesting to hear what folks have to say about merchandising in regards to Ruby. I'm still waiting to see what sort of stuff gets produced merch-wise. The show itself however, will look fabulous!! You going to Ottawa? If so we should hook up when we're there.
Nice drawings, thanks for sharing.
