costume sketches...
These are both from an earlier time. I'm posting the green woman pretty much as I painted her. For the woman in the robe, I just goofed around with some free textures from a site that Gerben Steenks recommended:

I am very fond of both of these images.
It is hard to decide whether one is better than the other.
The one at the top reminds me vaguely of the works of Brian Froud, whose images I am sure you know of.
Hi Elliot! Thanks! Brian Foud, that's an interesting suggestion- I'm not particularly a fan, but I'll take a closer look at his stuff. There is so much to learn!
To me that Green Woman piece is connected to 'black velvet paintings' we saw on the walls of suburban houses when we were kids. Also, it's a portrait and mostly about contours. But when I did it I didn't analyze the process. This is hindsight speaking.
It was only a vague similarity.
He's very well known and has influenced a million people but his work is certainly worth visiting.
I have a friend who visited India and returned with one of those velvet paintings.
IT was an elephant in a lagoon and she loves it.
(It's revolting).
Kitchy velvet... could be a whole series of themed paintings there....
